Insulation Against Metal Siding

Insulation against metal siding. A second option for insulating a wall with no sheathing is to use spray foam. The stud spacing on our metal buildings are typically 4 or 5 foot on center. Therefore if you want heat to stay within the area that has metal siding then insulation is necessary. Metal siding does not have insulating properties.
Some homeowners choose to use unfaced fiberglass insulation batts. This would require using two or two and a half strips between each stud. Each layer is composed of polyethylene bubbles that function as an additional thermal barrier that helps stop condensation. Metal siding and insulation do not go hand in hand and you do have a choice on the matter.
Spray foam especially closed cell spray foam will cling tenaciously to siding gluing everything together. Adding insulation behind the steel siding also adds even more the considerable expense and installation issues surrounding the material. You can install fiberglass insulation against the metal roof and prevent moisture problems if you cover it with a vapor barrier. Polyurethane foam has the added benefit of sealing air leaks but you shouldn t consider installing it directly against the back of the siding.
Make a better choice for your home. However if the metal siding is just in a garage where you store your car the effort it would take to install insulation may not be worth it.
